"Finally"

Its been awhile since I have posted and have realized that the end is near... for my senior project that is. Want to thank all my classmates and the faculty of the School of Cinematic Arts for their patience and professionalism. Hope my senior film can help me in creating a network in the animation field...my dreams are starting to become reality and just need to keep focused, its been a whirlwind of frustrating and sleepless nights creating, animating, editing, coloring, drawing, and struggling with my character defects that occasionally bring on doubts of my capability but I have shined through it all. when I started I did not even know any software applications besides word-perfect. Adobe (Photoshop, Aftereffects, Premier, and Flash) are now my friend. if your interested in seeing my film.... to bad I cannot post the whole file because distribution rights belong to USC... If you want to see it you will have to travel the short-film circuit to see it. As I plan to see how far I can go with this short film.

Boy Faces Warrior for Rain

I am excited to say that I am on my way towards the last portion of my film... I have much to do and edit and collaboration to do but have an ending in the cross hairs... My target is near... Sacrificing holidays, weekends, and evening for my dream of becoming an animator, thats all I can do, prove them all wrong, set the pace for the marathon, create opportunities and set a good example to the people around me. The choices I've made in life somehow led me to his point in life and I have to look back and say "Wow"!!! what an adventure and I still have a broader horizon to reach... Some how someway I will create my own destiny, even when I wanted to take into consideration the silent whispers of... I cannot go on... this is not for me... I said no to these voices and now things are getting even tighter and harder as crunch time comes approaching. So far my tenacity has proven to be the key, The lessons my parents taught me and the parenting I am experiencing now with my daughter will give me strength to succeed and hope that I can inspire the uninspired to fulfill there dreams as I am.

Warrior Appears

Here is the scene were I introduce the warrior... He magically appears when Chak The Rain God uses his powers to make a mural come to life. He will face Cualtemo (Boy) to a Mayan Ball game, which will the conflict/resolution of my project.

Dead==Lines

Today, I have realized that deadlines are critical for my completion of my film and meeting with sound designers, writers, and composers can be very complicated since differences in schedules can bring momentum to a quick halt in the process of film-making. Everything on paper can appear straight forward, but in reality it's not. Communication is the key and since I had to only depended on myself to create all my prior animation, I did not have as much pressure as I can only blame myself if things do not get done. Now, I have to depend on others to stick to what was negotiated and I have to have faith in these individuals that everything will turn out as planned. Then I have to make sure I stick to my schedule so that my collaborators can add their magic to my film. I do sometimes question myself but realize that its all part of the learning process and so far things have worked out for the best, and as long as I push forward and do all the criteria in this process, my film will be complete before the deadline. Just venting...

JOSE

New Semester, New Year...

Haven't been consistent with typing on my blog, I usually upload scenes or backgrounds from my film instead. I've had my fair share of procrastination throughout the holidays and for the most part, I've been able to make progress on "Mayan Reign". It's time to put it in high gear. I have completed some back grounds and am in the progress of plugging in more scenes onto my animatic and will update soon... For now here are a couple of Backgrounds.

update blog

There have been some updates on my project but the files are too large and do not upload on this blog. I have added three scenes of the protagonist's father in which he is introduced. He is at a well lowering a bucket for water, overhead shot of well and camera trunks inward to reveal a dry well and the scene transition into the title scene, dissolve. Then father is at the location of his garden which have been deprived of precious water, he reaches down to analyze the condition of the soil. No use since the soil is without moisture. The scene then moves to the boy kicking a soccer ball. Will re-export files so that they can be posted soon. Should have more new post also.

Puppet

It's been a while since my last post. Have drawn out my protagonist in a frontal pose, side pose, and 3/4 pose. Different hands to go along with his movement, also there are several facial expressions and I still have more to go. Will do the rest when they are needed.
The father is also almost complete and the warrior and Statue are to follow.

short test just to get a feel of the puppets range of motion, background is just a temporary image, not in animatic... will experiment with the movements and timing.

Puppet creation procedure

Have been able to create puppets in after effects and will be coloring them in and scanning soon so that I can bring into aftereffects and animate, here are some of the model sheets I created.

I had to create the 3/4 view so that each profile does not break the 180 degree rule. Just need to color and manipulate in position in after effects. This Stela of the Rain God Cha'ak will not be moving in my film but be transported in space magically from scene to scene and have a glowing effect in the eyes and around its profile.
